āļø Italian Hot Chocolate ā Thick, Luxurious & Spoonable
Thereās hot cocoa ā and then thereās Italian hot chocolate (aka cioccolata calda). This isnāt a quick mug you gulp down; itās a rich, velvety indulgence thatās more dessert than drink. Inspired by classic cafĆ©s, this version uses real dark chocolate, cocoa, and a touch of cornstarch to create a luscious drink youāll want to savor slowly. I made this yesterday and groaned when I had my first spoonful. My whole kitchen smelled like chocolate - heaven on a cold day! Itās very rich and can be served in demitasse cups with a dollop of homemade whipped cream.
Why itās special:
Thick and spoonable, just like in Romeās cafĆ©s.
Deep chocolate flavor without too much sweetness.
Perfect for curling up on chilly evenings or serving to guests as an elegant dessert drink. Serve with small spoons and crunchy biscotti (gf of course).
Key Ingredients:
Dark/bittersweet chocolate
Unsweetened cocoa powder
Whole milk (can use 2% for a lower-fat version)
Sugar, vanilla, pinch of salt
Cornstarch for that signature thickness
Pro tip: Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of chocolate shavings for extra indulgence.
*Make sure to use Gluten Free Chocolate. We like Milkboy Swiss Chocolate
